Given almost daily tournaments, the summer hardly leaves golfers a moment of rest. And as of Thursday, a few local high school players’ schedules potentially got a lot busier.

Three local golfers earned their spots to the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship with solid rounds in the tournament’s district event at Boulder’s Flatirons Golf Course. Peak to Peak’s Behrod Keshtavar, Fairview’s Megan McCambridge and Legacy’s Sarah Hankins locked in their positions for the top-rated tournament finishing in the top six at the qualifer.

The Optimist is one of the largest and best-known junior tournaments in the nation. More than 600 golfers are slated to play July 25-Aug. 4 event, hosted at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

The trio of local golfers had top-notch rounds to earn their spots at the Optimist. Keshtavar tied for first in the boys 16- to 18-year-old field, shooting a 70. But he was edged out for the championship after one playoff hole. McCambridge and Hankins finished neck-and-neck in the 15- to 18-year-old field, each turning in a 79 for a four-way tie for second.
