Boys swimming: Silver Creek’s Lis leading locals’ way into 4A state meet

The Class 4A and 5A boys swimming state meets take place Friday and Saturday.

Class 4A will be held at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center in Thornton, while 5A swimmers are headed to Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction.

Several area swimmers are qualified for the meet, chief among them Silver Creek sophomore Tyler Lis, who is seeded first in 4A in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1 minute, 57.66 seconds. Lis is fresh off of leading the Raptors to the Northern Conference title last weekend.

Also of note in 4A is Broomfield ace Martin Wallace, who is seeded second in both the 200 and 500 freestyles, as well as Eagles diver Cody Engstrom, the defending champ in 4A.

In 5A, Fairview’s Max Phillips leads the way locally as he’s seeded third in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 free.

Both state meets run on the same time schedule, with swim prelims beginning at 4 p.m. Friday in the respective locations. Dive prelims begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, with both swim and dive finals starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.
