After the Longmont No. 2 doubles team finished all-conference in the Northern League, sophomore Morgan Christensen wanted to send her senior partner Ashley Wright off with a bang at state.

“I wanted to play hard since it could be her last match,” Christensen said. “I wanted to play hard for her.”

The Trojans pair felt it played well in a first-round loss to Cheyenne Mountain on Thursday. They put up another good fight in a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Steamboat Springs’ Brooke Metzler and Maddie Labor in the consolation quarterfinals on Friday.

For Wright’s senior season, she was happy to help the Trojans increase their number of qualifiers from four players in 2012 to six in 2013.

“It was the most we’ve had in quite a few years,” Wright said. “It was fun having more people there to cheer you on and to do the same for them.”

Trojans No. 1 doubles pair Maddie Precht and Kelle Kloster surpassed their season goal of simply qualifying for state by reaching the championship quarterfinals before losing 6-3, 6-0 to Cheyenne Mountain’s Lauran Renjard and Jessica Metz. Precht and Kloster fell 6-2, 6-4 to Mullen’s Kelsey Zafian and Maddie Pryor in the consolation quarterfinals.

At No. 4 doubles, Trojans Fiona Patterson and Cynthia Mosness lost 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 to University’s Rebekah Dinneback and Alexis Hoecher on Thursday.
