The Front Range League will be well-represented in the second round of the Class 5A girls soccer state tournament. Here is a look at the local matchups, all of which feature teams among the tournament’s top five seeds:
(15) Rocky Mountain at (2) Legacy
When: Saturday, 1 p.m., North Stadium.
Records: Rocky Mountain 11-3-1; Legacy 14-2.
Notes: Front Range League champion Legacy recorded a 3-0 win in the first round against Adams City and faces a league rival in Rocky Mountain…Lauren Cook paced the win against Adams City with one goal and one assist…The Lightning recorded a 2-1 win against Rocky Mountain on March 12 behind two goals from University of Georgia recruit Kelsey Killean…Killean, a junior, leads Legacy with 10 goals. Cook has compiled a team-leading 12 assists…Rocky Mountain defeated Grandview 2-1 in the first round…Lobos senior Kait Eden has recorded team-leading totals of eight goals and six assists…The winner will play either Cherry Creek or Pine Creek in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
(21) Castle View at (5) Fairview
When: Saturday, 11 a.m.
Records: Castle View 9-6-1; Fairview 12-3-1.
Notes: Fairview posted a 3-0 win against Fruita Monument in the first round on Wednesday…Against Fruita, the Knights received two goals from Reci Smith, one goal from Nancy Ingham, and six saves from freshman goalie Avery Tallman…Smith, a sophomore, has been on a scoring spree, recording seven goals in the Knights’ past five games…Castle View recorded a 3-0 win against Denver East in the first round…Freshman Julie Mackin has paced Castle View’s offense with team-leading totals of 13 goals and eight assists, but she has had ample support from a solid senior class that includes Ashlee Craig (seven goals, five assists), Tayler Bradley (five goals, five assists), and Kaylee Bourelle (four goals, six assists)…The winner will face either Chaparral or Fossil Ridge in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
(19) Boulder at (3) Rock Canyon
When: Saturday, 10 a.m., Shea Stadium.
Records: Boulder 8-6-2; Rock Canyon 13-1-1.
Notes: The Panthers recorded a 1-0 win against Arvada West in the first round behind a goal from Elsy Segovia-Zavala in the 72nd minute. It was Segovia-Zavala’s third game-winning goal of the season…The Panthers’ attack will be challenged by a Rock Canyon defense that has allowed only one goal in its past seven games…Rock Canyon received two goals from sophomore Rebecca Pousma during a 6-0 first-round win against Brighton…The Jaguars finished second in the Continental League behind top-seeded Mountain Vista, which handed Rock Canyon its only defeat of the season…Rock Canyon boasts a balanced attack in which 10 players have recorded at least two goals. Junior Kaycie Young has led the way with eight goals and seven assists…The winner will play either Smoky Hill or Liberty in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
