KAI HALSEY MENDEZ, Niwot baseball — Halsey Mendez batted .400 with six runs scored and another driven in over a weeklong baseball tournament in Arizona. The junior leads the Cougars with with a .400 batting average and seven runs scored on the season. The Cougars went 2-2 in Arizona.

 

GIRLS

JENNA SCHEMMEL, Silver Creek girls soccer — The sophomore scorer, who led the Raptors with six goals last season, has shot her way within one goal of that mark through just four games. Against Adams City, Schemmel scored three first-half goals to pace an 8-0 rout. In a much different contest two days later, she broke a scoreless game in the 65th minute to guide the Raptors to a 1-0 win and a 3-1 start.
