BOULDER — Raise your hand if you thought Eaglecrest was going to win the Class 5A state championship. How many? … Thought so.

In one of the better upsets in Colorado history and surely one of its most unlikely champions, unsung Eaglecrest shocked Denver East 63-44 on Saturday night at the Coors Events Center to win it all, the Raptors’ first basketball title.

The Raptors, who unleashed their own version of “Jurassic Park,” finished 23-5, and not only stunned the Angels, who most everyone thought would easily take the championship — if not walk to it — but they dominated them from start to finish.

The Alpha clearly was TreShawn Wilford, who was brilliant with 21 points, nine rebounds and plays made from here to Centennial for his school’s fifth sports championship.
