Boys basketball: Eaglecrest reaches 5A title game with win over Mountain Vista

BOULDER — John Olander almost couldn’t talk.

His Eaglecrest Raptors had just defeated Mountain Vista 74-59 despite Olander’s best player, TreShawn Wilford, sitting for most of the game with foul trouble and the coach was trying to find the appropriate words.

“Oh, man,” the coach said after joining his Raptors acknowledging a rowdy student section. “You dream about this as a player, then when you start coaching you just hope you have an opportunity. You never know if it’s going to come.”

It came. Eaglecrest moved to 22-5 with its Class 5A final four victory at the Coors Events Center and earned a rematch with highly touted Denver East, which whipped the Raptors by 20 points in early December, in Saturday night’s finale to cap the 2012-13 season.
