PHIL DOWNING, Broomfield wrestling — Downing added another chapter to his remarkable prep career at the Class 4A state wrestling tournament, becoming the first Eagles wrestler to collect three state championship medals. The junior, who will have an opportunity to join elite company next year as a potential four-time winner at state, recorded a 10-1 major decision against Tyler Oberg in the 4A 145-pound final Saturday at the Pepsi Center. Downing, who won the 138-pound title as a sophomore and the 119-pound title as a freshman, also helped the Eagles capture the Class 4A team state championship.
IVY DeVRIES, Peak to Peak basketball — DeVries made school history while performing as an all-around force in leading the Pumas to victories against Pinnacle and Manual. DeVries finished with 23 points against Pinnacle, making 11 of 15 shots while also contributing six rebounds.
