Gail Hook is taking this basketball season off from coaching, but that doesn’t mean the honors aren’t still rolling in.

Hook, who is taking a one-season leave of absence from coaching the Monarch girls, will be honored Thursday night during halftime of the Coyotes’ 6:30 p.m. home game against Fairview for her service with USA Basketball’s U17 national team last summer.

USA Basketball women’s national team director Carol Callan, a former athletic director at Fairview, will present Hook with a plaque commemorating the U17 squad’s gold-medal run at last summer’s FIBA U17 world championships in the Netherlands. Hook, who has extensive experience with USA Basketball, served as an assistant coach for that squad.
