Fairview boys soccer standout Jack Mayfield has made a verbal commitment to continue his career at Metro State University of Denver.

Mayfield earned a spot on the BoCoPreps.com all-region first team this past fall after sharing the team lead with 13 goals. Mayfield and teammate Eric Kronenberg finished in a tie for 14th in goals in Class 5A. Mayfield, who also recorded four assists, produced four two-goals games, including a two-goal effort to lead a 3-0 win against Bear Creek in the first round of the 5A state tournament. Mayfield helped lead the Knights to a 14-4-1 record and a berth in the 5A semifinals, where their season ended in overtime against cross-town rival Boulder.

Metro State, coached by Ken Parsons, went 12-7-1 this fall. The Roadrunners have reached the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament in each of Parson’s nine seasons, and the program has advanced to four NCAA Division II tournaments in the past seven seasons.

“I had a couple options, but at first I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to play college soccer,” Mayfield said. “But the high school season was so much fun, I just wanted to continue playing. When this opportunity at Metro came up I got excited. It’s a great program and I get to stay close to home.”
