
With the regular season and regional tournament out of the way, the Longmont High volleyball team is finally staring down its long-awaited final goal.
The Trojans (24-1) earned the No. 3 seed in the Class 4A state tournament, which begins with pool play Friday at the Denver Coliseum.
Joining the Trojans in Pool 3 will be the local rival Broomfield Eagles (15-10), who won the Region 10 tournament to earn the No. 10 seed, and No. 6 Coronado (22-3).
After an incredible run to win the Region 11 tournament, the Silver Creek Raptors (11-13) were awarded the No. 12 seed in 4A. They’ll challenge the top-seeded, defending champion Cheyenne Mountain Indians (21-4) and No. 3 Durango (17-8) for a semifinal berth out of Pool 1.
In Class 3A, the Region 8-champion Holy Family Tigers (16-9) earned the eighth seed at state and will face No. 1 Valley (25-0) and No. 12 Manitou Springs in Pool 1.
State-tournament play begins Friday at 8 a.m. for all classifications. Each team will play one pool-play match on Friday then another on Saturday. The winner from each pool advances to the semifinals on Saturday.
The championship match for 4A and 3A will be played at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
