The Boulder soccer team started Front Range League play with a tough assignment, hosting sixth ranked Fort Collins at Recht Field. But the Panthers proved to be more than up to the task, dispatching of the highly touted Lambkins 5-0 Thursday night.
Co-Captain Kevin Van Lieshout scored what would prove to be the winning goal 25 minutes into the match, heading home a corner from Luis Castruita.
“It was a classic captain’s goal,” Boulder coach Hardy Kalisher said. “We needed someone to break the ice as we carried the tempo of the first 25 minutes. Kevin stepped up huge for us.”The Panthers scored again 10 minutes later with a Mason Douillard goal coming off a Lake Bryant assist. BHS tacked on three more goals in the second half, with Luis Castruita, Javier Castruita and Ryan Bower getting in on the action.
Goalkeeper Henry Huettel secured his second shutout of the season, saving all four shots he saw.
Boulder plays at No. 1 Denver East on Saturday.
