The accolades keep rolling in for Niwot softball star Nickie Blue.
On Monday, Blue was named the high school Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and MaxPreps.
Blue, a University of South Carolina recruit, enjoyed a spectacular streak last week on the mound and in the batter’s box while leading Niwot to a 6-0 mark.
Blue earned wins in five of the Cougars’ six victories, allowing only one earned-run in 30 innings while notching 60 strikeouts. Blue recorded four double-digit strikeout games, including an 18-strikeout performance during an eight-inning win against Valley.
At the plate Blue went 10 for 19 with seven RBI. Against Widefield, the lone game in which head coach Bobby Matthews rested Blue’s indomitable right arm — she was replaced by sophomore Jessica Johnson, who recorded seven strikeouts while earning her second win of the year — the senior went 3 for 3 while delivering a home run and three RBIs.
