COMMERCE CITY — The Missy Franklin gold medal tour came to Commerce City on Wednesday night. The Colorado Rapids, as well as the local police and firefighters, were the latest VIPs to meet Centennial’s star of the London Olympics.
They fall in line behind Jay Leno, Matt Lauer, Sylvester Stallone, Novak Djokovic and, among others, a few thousand Americans who stop the 17-year-old for a picture, an autograph, or simply a compliment she never gets tired of hearing.
“Congratulations,” they say. “You made us proud.”
Of all the things she did after topping every woman at the Olympics with four swimming gold medals and a bronze, two treats stood out.
