Shane O’Neill, left, fires a shot during Rapids practice on Tuesday as coach Oscar Pareja looks on. Former Fairview soccer star Shane O’Neill played in his first Major League Soccer game for the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night in a 3-0 win over the Portland Timbers at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
O’Neill, who graduated from Fairview High in May, signed with the Rapids just a few weeks later. He played for the club in an exhibition game against Swansea City earlier this summer. But Wednesday marked his first MLS contest.
O’Neill, a central midfielder, entered the game in the 86th minute for Jeff Larentowicz.
