JOSH QUIROZ, Silver Creek football — The junior running back helped lead the Raptors to an opening week win against Fernley (Nev.) by rushing for 125 yards on 17 carries. Quiroz got Silver Creek started by breaking free for a 65-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and also provided a key play in overtime, putting together an 8-yard run on the first play of the extra session to set up Kyle Kent’s game-winning 2-yard plunge.

NICKIE BLUE, Niwot softball — The South Carolina-bound recruit began her senior season by dominating the opposition on the mound and at the plate. In the Cougars’ opening win against Greeley Central, Blue recorded a three-inning perfect game while notching eight strikeouts. Blue was equally dominant in a four-inning shutout of Centaurus, recording six strikeouts while allowing only one hit. In her first three games, all victories, Blue allowed only two earned runs in 15 innings. At the plate, Blue went 5 for 8 with a home run and seven RBIs.
