POSTSEASON INFORMATION

— Class 5A regionals completed by Oct. 27.

Class 5A state championship is Nov. 2-3 at Thornton High School.

BROOMFIELD EAGLES

Coach: Erika Taga (third year).

Last year: Fourth-place team finish at Class 5A state.

Returning starters: Gabby Maiden (Sr., all-around); Breanna Claussen (Sr., floor, vault, uneven parallel bars); Melanie Stelling (Jr.,); Jessica Riley (So., uneven parallel bars); Molly Snipes (So., floor, balance beam).

Others to watch: Monique Martinez (Sr.); Monica Hoffman (Jr.); Kailey Licata (So.); Maggie Boyer (Fr.); Brianna Cevaal (So.).

Outlook: The Eagles have plenty of fire in their bellies after finishing fourth at the 2011 Class 5A state championship. The team is motivated to prove it is a state contender this year and has a deep enough roster to chase after the top spot. Expect Broomfield’s seniors to take the lead for much of the season, with both Maiden and Claussen each having the moves to bring home individual state places.

NIWOT COUGARS

Coach: Mallorie Lang (fifth year).

Last year: Did not qualify a team to the Class 5A state tournament.

Returning starters: Gabby Casey (So., uneven parallel bars); Lexi Frank (So., vault, floor); Allie Koldeway (Jr., all-around).

Others to watch: Austen Fankhouser (Sr.); Kaili Gallegos (Sr.); Tyne Curran (Jr.); Cody Avis (Jr.); Ila Katechis (Fr.).

Outlook: The Cougars have one main goal this season — send a team to state. It’s been since 2010 since Niwot accomplished the feat, but the team more than has the roster to make it back to the big dance. Koldeway is one of the team’s most veteran gymnasts, but she won’t have to carry the load alone. The additions of seniors Fankhouser and Gallegos should give the team plenty of firepower.
