WINDSOR — For a team missing its two best players, the Legacy boys golf team turned in an impressive season debut on Thursday.
Competing in the Fossil Ridge Invitational at the Highland Meadows Golf Course, Legacy managed to place eighth in the 12-team field despite playing without sophomore Eric Chen and junior Spencer Roberts.
While Chen was competing in another tournament, Roberts has been sidelined due to eligibility questions surrounding his transfer from Erie. A Class 4A state qualifier with the Tigers last year, Roberts’ status is being reviewed by the Colorado High School Activities Association to determine whether he made a bona fide move into the Legacy district rather than one motivated by athletics.
If it is determined that Roberts’ transfer was not legit, he will be forced to sit out half the season. Legacy coach Bobby Ortega said he had no indication when the final ruling would occur.
“With Spencer, they have to decide if it was a bona fide move or not. That’s out of my hands,” Ortega said.
