Fans take cover during a rain delay at the Legion A state tournament on Wednesday in the second inning of the Centaurus-Greeley GoJo game. The game was suspended until Thursday morning at 8 a.m.

Boulder baseball’s groundskeepers worked for nearly four hours Wednesday night to try and get one more game in on Day 1 of the Legion A state tournament.

In the end, tournament officials decided to call it a night and return to Scott Carpenter Park on Thursday instead.

After the first two games of the day were played to completion, the first-round game between Centaurus and Greeley GoJo Sports was suspended in the second inning and postponed until Thursday.

Tournament organizers had hoped to dry out the field in time to get the game between Boulder and Grand Junction Gene Taylor’s started by 8 p.m. But 8 turned into 9, and eventually the decision was made to call it off.

Boulder coach Steve Disbrow said most of the field was playable Wednesday night save for a couple of spots.

The Centaurus-GoJo game will resume at 8 a.m. Thursday. The Boulder-Gene Taylor’s game follows at 11 a.m. Fairview gets the Centaurus-GoJo loser at 2 p.m. Brighton faces the Boulder Gene Taylor’s loser at 5 p.m. And Rocky Mountain faces the Boulder-Gene Taylor’s winner at 8 p.m.

Game 7, between Fossil Ridge and the Centaurus-GoJo winner, has been bumped to 9 a.m. Friday. After that, the tournament will be back on schedule barring any more delays.
