ERIE — Each time she stepped to the plate on Sunday, Haley Donaldson made it count.

It took the 14-year-old just two at-bats to drive in eight runs on a pair of grand slams and lead the Triple Crown Stars to a 10-0, three-inning win over the Warriors in the 16-under championship game of the Stazio tournament on Sunday.

“Seeing my teammates get so much intensity, it got to me,” Donaldson said. “We play our best every game and that one was definitely a good one.”

Donaldson’s first-inning slam capped a five-run frame. Her second, which she hit on the first pitch of the at bat, put the Stars up 9-0.

Delaney McGinn drove in Haleigh Waterland to end the game in the third inning, just 45 minutes after it started.

“It’s the best feeling to be on this team,” Donaldson said of the team effort. “It’s not about me personally but what the team gives me.”

Their third tournament of the young season, the Stars all four of their games Sunday after going 1-2-1 in pool play on Saturday.

Having never seen two grand slams by one player in a game, head coach Krista Judge said she was impressed by Donaldson’s ability to dominate the game with two at bats.

“She’s at Triple Crown all the time taking some extra cuts,” Judge said. “She’s really strong. She works hard and today was just her day.”

Donaldson swung the bit stick at the plate, but the stars also played good defense.

“Our pitchers were a lot better today than they were yesterday,” Judge said. “They made some really good adjustments and our bats started to come along.

“We talk a lot about our defense and Trinity did a good job of keeping the ball inside. She got a lot of ground balls. Our girls did a good job of picking up the ground balls and Haleigh just made a phenomenal play in right field.”

Stars starting pitcher Trinity Harrington just two singles in three innings on the mound. Waterland made a diving catch in right field in the first inning. McGinn made a diving stop at second base and flipped to Donaldson for an out and saved a run from scoring in the second inning.
