Sending girls soccer players to the collegiate ranks is nothing new for Skyline High School.
But the three Falcons signing national letters of intent Thursday will definitely be blazing a trail.
Midfielder Nikki Mastriona and defenders Saddie Stark and Madi Welsh all will make their commitments official to play at Western State, which is playing its inaugural season of women’s soccer in the fall.
Western is coached by Jeremy Clevenger, who helped Fort Hays State start a program last season.
“He came and watched one of our games,” SHS coach Kevin Puckett said Wednesday. “They’re excited to go down and play. It’s great for them. I’m glad to see kids go somewhere and play soccer and get a little money for it. It’s really awesome.”
