ROAD TO BOULDER — Air Academy: (No. 1 seed in Tanya Haave Region) def. No. 8 Green Mountain, 53-25; def. No. 4 Glenwood Springs, 59-24; def. No. 2 Broomfield, 66-46; def. No. 1 Pueblo West, 49-36; D’Evelyn: (No. 1 seed in Tracy Hill Region) def. No. 9 Canon City, 67-42; def. No. 5 Delta, 74-58; def. No. 2 Sand Creek, 52-36; def. No. 1 Pueblo South, 57-53.

WHO TO KNOW — Air Academy: Brittany Hernandez, Kate Louthan, Miranda Beal; D’Evelyn: Madalyn Neely, Laura Tyree, Rachel Olson.

COACHES — Air Academy: Bob Wingett; D’Evelyn: Chris Olson.

STORY LINE — A first-time state champ will be crowned in this one. Air Academy won the Colorado Springs Metro League. Air Academy has faced a brutal schedule, with losses to 5A powers Highlands Ranch and Regis but wins over teams like 5A semifinalist Legacy and five-time defending 4A champ Broomfield in the quarterfinals. D’Evelyn rolled through Jeffco League play. The Jaguars are playing with a bit of a chip on their shoulder as probably the least-heralded of the 4A No. 1 seeds.

LEGACY (23-4) vs. MONARCH (22-5)

TIME — 8 p.m. Friday, Coors Events Center.

ROAD TO BOULDER — Legacy: (No. 1 seed in Alice Barron Region) def. No. 8 Prairie View, 80-48; def. No. 4 Denver East, 74-70; def. No. 2 Doherty, 64-62; def. No. 1 Highlands Ranch, 64-61; Monarch: (No. 1 seed in Kaye Garms Region) def. No. 8 Castle View, 49-24; def. No. 4 Ralston Valley, 64-41; def. No. 3 ThunderRidge, 62-36; def. No. 1 Regis, 69-57.

WHO TO KNOW — Legacy: Kailey Edwards, Emily Glen, Caitlin Smith; Monarch: Alexus Johnson, Ashton Davis, Rebecca Richmond.

COACHES — Legacy: Craig Van Patten; Monarch: Gail Hook.

STORY LINE — Did somebody mention first-time champs? Both of these relatively young schools are seeking the same in this Front Range League showdown. One person who isn’t unfamiliar to state titles is Monarch coach Gail Hook, who guided Centaurus to a crown in 1991. Her squad boasts a trio of Division-I bound seniors in Johnson (Grambling State), Davis (Air Force) and Richmond (Navy). Legacy’s star, Edwards, is headed to the University of Denver, but the Lightning proved that others could step up in their semifinal win over Highlands Ranch. Monarch won both regular-season meetings with Legacy.
