BOULDER — The last time Shining Mountain and Jim Elliot Christian faced off, the Lions ran away with a 36-point victory. Through the first half of Thursday night’s 5280 District semifinal game, the score was significantly closer.

“We knew they had improved significantly since the last time we played them,” said coach Enoch Miller.

Shining Mountain was able to turn around a rough first half to pull away late for a 55-41 win over the visiting Warriors.

The Lions struggled with first half turnovers and the inability to score inside. Miller knew they would have to change things up in the second half in order to pull ahead.

They turned to junior Andrew Bremner, who broke out with 12 points in the second half, scoring 19 total for the game.

“We set Bremner up on the pick and roll to pull their big guy out of the paint, and he was able to score.” Miller said.

With Thursday night’s victory, the Lions earned a spot in the 5280 District championship on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. against Denver Jewish Day at Arvada Middle School.
