Boys: KC Rivera, Frederick football

Rivera and his Warriors defense found themselves in a grueling struggle against top-ranked Canon City last weekend, and they walked away with the biggest upset of the postseason so far, no matter what the classification. The junior linebacker recorded eight solo tackles during Frederick’s 7-6 upset victory, and he added another 39 yards rushing on a day when movement on offense was hard to come by. Rivera leads his team with 100 solo tackles.

Girls: Becca Mau, Longmont volleyball

While the final outcome wasn’t what the Trojans had hoped for, they made another strong statement at the Class 4A state volleyball playoffs. And Mau led the way with 54 kills in three matches, and opposing teams had to expend a lot of energy tracking her on the court. The 6-foot outside hitter finished her sophomore season with 430 kills, 432 digs and 45 aces.
