The Monarch-Broomfield rivalry has been about as even as it gets in its young history on the gridiron.

In 10 meetings, the series is tied 5-5. Broomfield leads the overall score in the series, but not by much (220-197) given 10 meetings.

The Coyotes and Eagles will meet for the second time this season and second time ever in the playoffs when they square off in the Class 4A quarterfinals on Friday at Centaurus High School. Readers have tabbed it the Game of the Week.

The game got 33 percent of the reader vote, beating out Silver Creek at Lewis-Palmer, Longmont at Castle View, D’Evelyn at Frederick and Lyons at Burlington.

The second-seeded Coyotes won at Broomfield 42-14 early in the season. The Coyotes (11-0) have rolled ever since. Broomfield (9-2), meanwhile, went on to finish second in the Northern League.

Friday’s victor earns a spot in the state semifinals, on the road against the Pine Creek-Greeley West winner.
