DENVER — Both Silver Creek and Holy Family went 0-2 in pool play on Friday at the state volleyball tournament at the Denver Coliseum on Friday.

For Class 3A fifth-seeded Holy Family, the two losses mean the Tigers are eliminated from state semifinal contention regardless of whether they win their final pool game on Saturday morning.

The Tigers fell to No. 4 Eaton in the first match of the day Friday 25-21, 25-19, 25-15 before dropping a tough five-gamer to No. 1 Colorado Academy in the afternoon, 25-17, 25-20, 13-25, 21-25, 15-11.

In Class 4A, meanwhile, No. 8 Silver Creek’s semifinal chances took a major hit, while No. 3 Longmont would still be in decent position with a win in Friday’s final match of the night against No. 7 Lewis-Palmer. The Trojans were upset by No. 6 Roosevelt 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 in the morning.

After a 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 morning loss to No. 1 Cheyenne Mountain, Silver Creek fell to No. 4 Durango, 25-19, 25-10, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11 in the afternoon. While the Raptors’ chances aren’t totally gone, they would need to beat No. 5 Coronado on Saturday morning and have Durango upset undefeated Cheyenne Mountain to have any shot at advancing.
