BYERS — In a battle of top-10 Class 1A football teams, No. 4-ranked Lyons came up with a big win Saturday.

The Lions defeated the No. 8 Byers Bulldogs 27-12 on the road to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Good offense, defense and kicking gave the the Lions a 20-0 lead at halftime.

Lions senior quarterback Jordan Melani ran for 102 yards and a touchdown and threw for 69 yards, including a 6-yard score to Macrae Falce.

Linebacker River Crane led the Lions with 13 tackles and Kyle Dick had two interceptions.

Kicker Forrest Donnell was 2-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points.It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the Bulldogs scored their 12 points. The Lions, who lead the 1A Metro North with a 3-0 league record, will play their final league game against Clear Creek (2-6, 2-1) at home next Friday.
