NEDERLAND — Out with the old streak, in with the new.
Seven days after snapping a 12-game losing streak, Nederland won for the second consecutive week with a 41-6 homecoming victory over Kipp Collegiate in Class 1A football action Saturday.
Senior running back Joe Moctezuma produced another big game, too, rushing for 258 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries. Last week he ran for 299 yards and three touchdowns in the 27-20 win over Denver Christian the week before.
“We want to keep riding Joe,” Nederland coach Aaron Jones said. “He’s running like an animal out there.”
Moctezuma broke free for an 81-yard touchdown run to put Nederland up 6-0 in the first quarter. He capped off his day with a 91-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 41-0 lead.
Nederland quarterback Rutger Storkamp was efficient throwing the ball. Two of this three passes went for touchdowns, one a 25-yard toss to Dillon Weaver and another a 15-yard scoring pass to Mark Plumb.
Defensively, Connor Steele came up with an interception and he forced a fumble, which he recovered.
The defense nearly had a shutout, but Kipp (0-1) scored in the last minute.
Nederland (2-2) goes for three in a row heading into conference play next week, hosting Cornerstone Christian at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
“It was nice to get this kind of win on homecoming,” Jones said. “We have good momentum going.”
