3 Gymnasts to Watch
Allie Burgess, Sr., Broomfield: Had a pair of top-12 finishes at state a year ago.
Gabby Maiden, Jr., Broomfield: Capped her sophomore year with an eighth-place finish in the vault at state.
Ariel Mosier, Sr., Niwot: A solid all-around gymnast, she was 20th at state in the uneven bars.
5A State meet will be held Nov. 4-5 at Thornton High School.
5A Regionals must be completed by Oct. 29, at various sites.
Coach: Erika Taga, 2nd year
Last year: Finished 3rd at the Class 5A state meet
Returning state qualifiers: Allie Burgess, Sr.; Breanne Claussen, Jr.; Kelsey Dilz, Sr.; Gabby Maiden, Jr.; Sophie Meints, Sr.; Melanie Stelling, So.
Others to watch: Jessica Riley, Fr.; Molly Snipes, Fr.
Outlook: A year ago, the Eagles finished third at the Class 5A state meet, less than a point out of second. With six state qualifiers back, including several of the state’s best individuals, they have their sites set on improving that mark. “The girls have been working hard all year on upgrades and if we can stay healthy we are looking to make a run (at the top),” Taga said.
Coach: Mallorie Lang, 4th year
Last year: Finished 8th at the Class 5A state meet
Returning state qualifiers: Rachel Hillen, Sr.; Courtney Jeffres, Jr.; Allie Koldeway, So.; Ariel Mosier, Sr.; Kayla Overfield, Sr.
Others to watch: Gabby Casey, Fr.; Tyne Curran, So.; Lexi Frank, Fr.
Outlook: Although the Cougars have five state qualifiers back, their top gymnasts from a year ago graduated. There is a good base of talent, however, and Lang is eager to see what this group can do. “We will just have to wait and see where we are once the season gets started,” she said.
