LYONS -- While every other wrestler who finished fifth at his regional tournament over the weekend is disappointed right now, Lyons wrestler David Plute is a little less so.
Placing fifth at the Class 2A Region 3 tournament, Plute went 1-2 at heavyweight and did not claim one of the four state tournament bids from his weight class. But since the Region 2 tournament had only three heavyweights competing, the fourth state bid became an at-large bid and was awarded to Plute because he had the best record of the remaining heavyweights.
Plute will represent the Lions at the state tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
