A second ice hockey program is coming to Boulder Valley Schools with the addition of a junior varsity team at Centaurus for this upcoming 2018-19 season.

The program joins Monarch as the second team in the school district.

Centaurus will become a varsity team in 2020-21 for the 2020-22 two-year cycle, according to Emerald Murphy, the school's athletic director.

"I am super excited to be able to have an opportunity to offer another program to support our kids in our community," Murphy said. "There has been interest brewing for another program in BVSD. People are excited about CHSAA hockey.

"It's great that we get to pilot a JV," Murphy said. "That's always a healthy way begin things, and I'm looking forward to the next step."
