SWIMMERS/DIVERS TO KNOW

Cailen Chinn, Sr., Fairview: One of the premier freestylers in the region, will be a pivotal part in their relays too.

Emilia Culberson, So., Boulder: A big offseason of swimming has Panthers coach Jay Turner thinking big things for her.

Payten Irwin, So., Niwot: Was a finalist in the fly last season as a freshman and should be right back in the mix there and in the 200 IM.

Amelie Lessing, Jr., Fairview: Talented Knights junior will be one of the favorites in both the 200 IM and 500 free, where she was a runner-up last season.

Jillian Martin, Jr., Broomfield: Placed 11th in both the 200 & 100 free last season and would love nothing more to make the top eight in each this time around.

Lucy Matheson, So., Longmont: Burst onto the prep scene in a big way, placing in the top three in each of her individual events (200 IM and 500 free) and leading the turnaround for the Trojans team.

Mikayla Seigal, Jr., Fairview: One of three Knights returners to place in the top eight of two individual (events last season at state.

Brandi Vu, Sr., Silver Creek: The talented Raptors senior has already committed to the University of Denver and will look to try and etch her name in the Silver Creek record books.

Outlook: The Panthers welcome a wealth of freestyle talent in the form of eight freshman year-round swimmers. "Just as impressive as well are five freshman divers entering all with decorated backgrounds as gymnasts," said Turner who singled out Culberson as one to watch after a big summer.

BROOMFIELD EAGLES

Outlook: Said Austin: "We've got some experienced freshmen on the team, so hopes are high for them. Hard work and talent helps breed success in others as well, so I'm hopeful that the girls will push each other to consistently improve and succeed."

CENTAURUS WARRIORS

FAIRVIEW KNIGHTS

Outlook: With 11 athletes returning who placed individually at state last year, Fairview will be well positioned to take second place at state again this year. Defending Champion Fossil Ridge will threaten national high school records in the 200 medley relay and 100 breaststroke events. Karla Lessing and Jenna Reznicek, siblings of Fairview relay All Americans Amelie Lessing and Kaia Reznicek, should add depth to the team at state. Last year the team was ranked 15th nationally in the Dual Meet Rankings compiled by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.

LEGACY LIGHTNING

Coach: Diana Wiles (7th season)

Last year: Finished 16th at Class 5A state meet

Outlook: Coach Wiles was traveling and was unable to provide information.

LONGMONT TROJANS

Coach: Kelly Shipley (3rd season)

Last year: Finished 15th at Class 3A state meet

Outlook: Said Beard: "Our goal, as is every year, is to support our team in all aspects of their lives and to help each of our swimmers achieve the personal goals they have set for themselves this season."

NIWOT COUGARS

Coach: Sarah Stamp (9th season)

Outlook: Said first year coach Scott, who has walked into a huge freshman class to bolster her numbers: "Since last season we have almost tripled our numbers, from 14 to 37 swimmers. Our senior class is strong with not only swimming ability, but leadership skills as well."
