The Fairview girls basketball team has nary a player averaging double digits in points this season, but the Knights continue to show they want to be a part of the conversation in the Front Range League.

Taking on Boulder on Tuesday night at the Coors Event Center, it took just one made bucket from their leading scorer — Ashley Panem — for the Knights to settle in.

That basket, a lengthy baseline jumper, didn't come until the second quarter, but it sparked a 14-2 run that seemed to suck the life out of the Panthers going to the locker room of what eventually turned into a 50-23 win for FHS.

The spacious CEC tends to play mind tricks on shooters, and for awhile Tuesday neither team found long range shots as favorable. Panem's early struggles were subdued after that first make, which put the score at 14-6 with just about 5 minutes, 30 seconds to go before halftime.

Once she splashed one, the rest of her team followed suit, and with Boulder turnovers turning into extra possessions, FHS began to enforce its will a little more.

Panem scored 11 points in the third quarter including three 3-pointers, and she finished with a team-most 15 points for the game. Ten players scored for Fairview.

"I just think that we take practice serious and we go hard all the time, and we trust each other," Panem said after helping move the Knights to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in the FRL. "We have a lot of players, but we feel no matter who is on the floor they can do just as well as the starters.

"I thought getting used to (the environment) was big, and we started to move around a little more and get open shots. You keep shooting, some are going to fall. It really wasn't our offense but our defense, our deflections and steals that got us going also."

Boulder (4-11, 0-5) did get a couple players back in the lineup as Odelia Ryan saw her first action of the season, but the Panthers lost the turnover battle as well as the rebounding battle.

Ally Murphy Pauletto and Ryan led Boulder with six points apiece.
