Sydney Wetterstrom and Madi Gaibler have been key components of a successful Longmont girls basketball team. However, there's a new pair of Trojans stepping up to do their part. Sophomores Sydney Fixmer and Emma Carney have been improving each day and taking on bigger roles for Longmont, coach Mike Knaus says.

"Sydney has really been starting to get more aggressive," says Knaus. "And then we have Emma, another sophomore, who really is improving every game."

In a 46-32 road win over Greeley Central (3-3 Northern League, 10-4 overall), Sydney Fixmer scored 8 points for the Trojans, while Carney had a well-rounded effort, chipping in four points, four assists, four steals and eight rebounds. These contributions were icing on the cake for Longmont (7-0 Northern League, 13-1 overall), as the senior duo of Wetterstrom and Gaibler had 17 and 14 points, respectively.

" The sophomores are really a nice complement to the seniors," said Knaus.

The Trojans will continue their league play next week, travelling to Silver Creek on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m., with the boys game to follow at 6:30 p.m.
