ERIE — The Erie girls basketball team needed several attempts to put away Skyline on Friday night.

But, desperately needing a Tri-Valley League win after dropping the first two, the Tigers dominated the fourth quarter on both offense and defense for a 43-33 victory over the Falcons.

Skyline showed its typical fight-to-the-bitter-end play, led by Leah Osborn's game-most 19 points, but McKayley Green and her teammates had several steals in the fourth quarter that prevented the visitors from making yet another rally.

With it, Erie improved to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the TVL. Skyline dropped to 3-8 and 0-3 in league.

"It was really good to get in the swing of things again with the little lull we had lately," Green said after pacing her team with 14 points and nine rebounds. "Towards the end, there was a lot more desire to get those rebounds and just do everything to get the win."

Leading by a 14-4 count after one quarter, Erie only held just a 32-31 advantage heading to the fourth frame as Osborn helped Skyline stay in the contest with nine third-quarter points.

But Green, like she did in the first quarter, found some good looks in the final frame and hustled on the boards, too. Her putback at the 7 minute, 14 second mark of the fourth made it 34-31, and after a long stalemate made it 39-31 with two straight buckets as time was winding down.

Skyline missed the front end of the bonus two different times early in the frame, and the Falcons were then doomed by not being able to get clean inbounds plays.

Green credited her teammates for anticipating a lot of those passes and getting steals.

"I feel like as a team we just got a lot better defensively, after we really figured out what they were trying to do and what they were about," Green said. "Not letting them get those chances and getting more possessions was very, very helpful."

Annika Turner added nine points and seven rebounds for Erie, which overcame 31 turnovers.
