Font ResizeLONGMONT -- Margaret Davis' offensive numbers have spiked over the past three games. For the Silver Creek Raptors girls basketball team, winner of three straight, it's beginning to look like SCHS' success may depend on Davis' this season.
Averaging 12.3 points and four steals during the Raptors' current win streak, the junior point guard's 13 points Tuesday and three steals led the Raptors to a 62-45 win over cross-town rival Longmont on Tuesday night.
"These past three games I've definitely driven it into the lane a lot more, trying to get some points for my team," Davis said. "I'm trying to be more of a threat and get other players open."
Davis scored 11 points in the second half to preserve the Raptors' 21-point halftime lead. The Raptors' leading scorer, Emilie Rembert, who is averaging 13.2 points per game as a junior, put in 11.
The Raptors (10-6, 4-3 Northern Conference) have won five of their last six games and Davis said they excited about Tuesday's victory against their city neighbors and league rivals.
"We really came out with some momentum from the last two games against Mountain View and Erie," Davis said. "We really played well those games so we knew we had to come out for this cross-town rivalry and play our best."
Junior guard Carrie Ramirez got her minutes' worth by sinking three 3-pointers in the first half before foul trouble limited her time on the court. Raptors senior center Grace Reed drop-stepped her way to 10 points in the first, helping build the Raptors' lead to a comfortable distance.
"I don't always play well in the first half but I felt the momentum playing Longmont," Reed said. "Ever since middle school, every time I hit the first shot in a game I get comfortable and get pumped for the second."
Having lost five of their last seven games, the Trojans (8-6, 2-4) got solid games from senior Ella Fallon (eight points) and freshman forward Sydney Wetterstrom (seven
Junior guard Kathryn Schell, who is averaging 15 points per game this season, led the Trojans with 14 points. After the game, she said the Trojans players need to regain the trust in one another that bolstered them to a 6-1 run to start the season.
"I feel like our team really needs to regroup and get together again. I feel like we're not playing together as a team at all," Kathryn Schell said. "We need to come back and work a lot harder in practice and continue in our league."
On Thursday, the Raptors will play Centaurus and the Trojans will face Greeley Central.
The Raptors outscored the Trojans 109-63 in a pair of lopsided victories last season. The Trojans and Raptors will meet up again in both teams' regular season finale at Longmont High School on Feb. 22.
