LONGMONT -- Longmont Christian sophomore forward Allison Cochran made sure the Warriors got their first 2A Mile High League win on Friday night.

Coming out of the gate with a hot hand, Cochran scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Warriors' best offensive performance of the season, a 43-20 home win over the Nederland Panthers.

"I just felt on tonight," Cochran said. "I used the adrenaline and I just started going and going. I just had my basketball brain turned on."

Going up against 6-foot-1 Panther forward Cory Januzzi, Cochran used her pump fake and drive to get to the basket. The Warriors 10th-grader scored 10 points in the first quarter, including eight straight for her team to give them a 16-7 lead to start the second. In the second, the Warriors pushed their lead to 26-15 by halftime.

Ramping up the defense, the Warriors (2-6, 1-2) held the Panthers (1-8, 0-2) scoreless in the third quarter to pull away to a 24-point lead to start the fourth. Junior point guard Ashley Jauregui said the Warriors came into the game confident and the win should help them moving forward through the league schedule.

"It's good for our morale. It's good for our confidence because we've been pushing, pushing, pushing and working towards winning games," Jauregui said. "When you're losing, everyone gets down and you have to try to keep the momentum up in practice. After wins, it's easier to push harder."

Jauregui scored 11 points and junior guard Lizzie Ehr scored 12.

For the Nederland Panthers, they left Longmont still searching for their first win of the season.

Panthers junior point guard Amanda Cook said Friday's performance was one of the Panthers' best this season.

"It's tough because we have seven players this year and no seniors," Cook said. "We're mostly freshmen so that that makes it tough since we don't have much experience. We still have a lot to work on but we're progressing this year."

The Panthers will host Front Range Christian on Tuesday. The Warriors will travel to Westminster to take on Belleview Christian, which is ranked seventh in Class 1A.
