FAIRVIEW FEST ON TAP

With multiple local schools hosting tournaments this week, Fairview gets in on the action next week with its annual Fairview Festival boys and girls tourneys.

The boys play Monday, Wednesday and Friday in an eight-team bracket, while the girls play Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Local squads Broomfield, Silver Creek and Fairview will take part in the girls tourney. Broomfield, Niwot and Fairview will play in the boys version, with the latter two squaring off in the first round at 8 p.m. Monday.

The boys championship game is at 8 p.m. Dec. 14, while the girls championship game is at 5 p.m. Dec. 15.

CENTAURUS XC COACH PRESENTING SPORTS PHYSICS COURSE

Centaurus cross country coach Devin Rourke, who led the Warriors to the Class 4A boys state title in 2011, will present a two-hour course on the physics of sports on Thursday afternoon at CHS.

The course, which is open to the public, runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Rourke is working toward doctorate in physics at the University of Colorado.

"High school extracurricular activities, especially sports, provide an untapped opportunity for students to discover how physics is relevant in their everyday lives," Rourke said in a release.

NEDERLAND HOOPS CANCELS JV SEASONS

Nederland High's basketball teams had some schedule shuffling to do recently after having to cancel its junior varsity seasons due to a lack of players.

The Nederland girls team, led by first-year head coach Josh Lederach, has just seven players on the squad, while the boys team has just 10.
