BEN SJOBAKKEN, Silver Creek football -- The junior quarterback led the Raptors to their first Class 3A state championship by going 20 for 29 for 238 yards and four touchdowns passing in Silver Creek's decisive 32-15 win against Rifle Saturday in the title game. Sjobakken opened the game by going 6 for 7 for 78 yards on the game's opening drive and capped the march with his first touchdown toss, a 10-yard throw to Trey Fleming. Sjobakken put the Raptors ahead for good with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Eric Machmuller in the second quarter and added a 7-yard touchdown to Zane Lindsey in the third quarter. Sjobakken punctuated his big day with a game-icing 21-yard touchdown throw to Fleming with 2:55 remaining. The junior ended the season with just two interceptions in 315 attempts.
MANDY McCORMICK, Faith Baptist basketball -- The junior guard turned in a stellar game as the Pioneers recorded a 26-25 victory in their rivalry showdown against Longmont Christian. McCormick accounted for about 70 percent of Faith Baptist's offense by pouring in 18 points. McCormick knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored 13 of her team's first 15 points, keeping the Pioneers in the game until teammate Hailey Schulman knocked down the winning 3-pointer with 14 seconds remaining.
