The early part of the prep basketball season is full of tournament play, and three BoCoPreps.com-area schools will be hosting such events next week.

Centaurus plays host to the Boulder Valley Invitational from Tuesday to Saturday, with local squads Erie, Mead and Legacy also participating on the girls side and Erie and Mead in the boys bracket. The girls championship game is Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., while the boys title game follows at 7:30 that night.

Skyline is hosting an eight-team boys tournament from Dec. 5 to Dec. 8. The Falcons host Summit in the first round on Wednesday night. Estes Park, Englewood, Berthoud, Sterling and Thornton will also attend. Semifinals are Dec. 7, with the championship game slated for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8.

The Holy Family girls team, meanwhile, hosts its Tiger Tip-Off. That championship game is also scheduled for Dec. 8.


-- Former Broomfield soccer standout Garrett Seitz was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team. The Regis University junior has maintained a 3.91 grade point average in Biological and Biomedical Sciences while starting 17 games this fall for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champion Rangers.

-- Former Fairview star Nicole Edelman was named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Freshman honorable mention list after leading the Colorado volleyball team with 1,060 assists this fall. She also led CU in aces with 27 and averaged 9.22 assists per set, good for eighth best in the Pac-12.


-- Former Monarch standout volleyball player Kaleigh Humphrey, a junior at Eckerd College in Florida, was named second-team All-Sunshine State Conference. The libero averaged 3.36 digs per set to help lead the Eckerd defense.
