Riley Negrey takes fourth in state debut

Riley Negrey averaged 8.8 points and 7.0 rebounds for the Centaurus girls basketball team that won 20 games over the winter. But springtime in track time and the Warriors debuted at the state championships on Friday.

Not only did reach the 4A long jump finals despite entering the event as the 15th seed, Negrey hit a personal-best 16 feet, 11.5 inches on her second jump in finals to place fourth overall.

"That was way better than I expected," Negrey said. "I came into the meet not really expecting to make finals and then I go out and hit my PR. So I had a good jump day. It was my last meet of the season and I figured that it's all or nothing. I don't know how to explain it but I'm super happy with how I did. I just ran, I just jumped, I got what I got and I can't really be mad at it."
