LYONS — The motivation to qualify for next week's prestigious Arcadia Invitational paid significant dividends for Monarch distance runner Isaac Green on Thursday.

Running in good conditions at the Lyons Invitational, Green won the boys 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 16.37 seconds. The time was not only a personal best for Green, it also smashed the previous meet record of 4:30.77 set by Loveland's Marcus Quere last year.

Remarkably, as impressive as his performance was, Green felt he could have done even better.

"I was way slow on my second lap so I've got to work on the pacing of that but it was a good race, I felt good," Green said. "Everybody in it did an awesome job and I'm really proud of the guys, and individually, I'm pretty happy with it. That's my PR by a few seconds. That'll definitely get me into the meet but I'm not sure if it'll get me into the invite race."

Green wasn't the only athlete to claim a meet record at Thursday's meet, which was moved from Friday because of forecasted bad weather. The Niwot girls, who pulled away from Loveland late in the evening to win the team competition, knocked down a number of meet marks.

Cougars junior Mary Gillett set meet records of 16 feet, 7 inches in the long jump and 57.16 seconds in the 400-meter run. Alexis Carroll set meet records of 14.92 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 36-06 in the triple jump, Makenzie Fidelak set the meet-best mark at 45.06 seconds in the 300 hurdles and the Cougars girls 3,200-meter relay team also set a meet record time of 9:47.51.

"The weather was good, the competition was good," Gillett said. "I'm a little frustrated because I really wanted to go 56 today, but that's alright. It'll come another day. We're having a really good day as a team. Everybody just came ready to bring it."

Longmont's Gustaf Backman won the boys pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 10 inches. Teammates Danny Ahern (40 feet, 0.75 inches) and Nick Paone (39-8.75) placed first and second in the boys triple jump.

Skyline's Henry Carlson won the boys discus with a throw of 148 feet, 1 inch.

Monarch's Danielle Honan won the Lyons Invite 100-meter dash in 12.77.

Host Lyons swept the top three spots in the girls pole vault, with Brenna Kuskie (10 feet, 4 inches) placing first, Logan Kuskie (10-4) placing second and Katie Fankhouser (7-04) taking third.

Erie won the girls 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:08.62.
