The Fairview girls golf team has had plenty to celebrate over the past week, and all the fun might just be a precursor for the biggest celebration to come once spring rolls around.
Not long after Kelly Moran signed a national letter of intent to play in college at William and Mary, teammate Jordan Sunset followed suit with another Division-I program. Sunset will play at Northern Colorado.
The D-I duo has played a key role in the Knights logging top-six team finishes at the Class 5A state tournament each of the past two years. FHS took third last spring, with Moran tying for 11th individually and Sunset tying for 25th.
Given that senior Megan McCambridge (14th at state last year) also figures to return, the Knights are positioned well for another solid state run. McCambridge's freshman sister, Madison, should also add some depth to the lineup this spring.
"It's a very exciting week that we got two girls that are committed to play at the next level," FHS coach John Zerwin said Wednesday. "We've got aspirations to compete at state for the championship and I think we've got a good chance to do it. I know the girls are working hard."
