The 2016 volleyball regional tournaments were unveiled on Monday and BoCoPreps.com area teams were listed all over from Class 2A to 5A and will begin preparing for the tournaments to take place statewide.
In the top classification, the Fairview Knights claimed the No. 3 overall seed and will host the 5A Region 3 tournament on Saturday. After making an historic run to the championship match at last year's state tournament, the Knights are in a good spot to start their quest for a potential return.
"We're really excited," Knights head coach Kelsey Spencer said. "One of our goals this year was to make the path to state a little bit easier than it was last year and that meant being a host. We're not just hosting but we've got one of the better pools and we did a good job at the Rangeview tournament to end the season. We're in good shape to go out and take care of business to lock in our spot for state."
The Knights won the Rangeview tournament, a tournament at which the Knights warmed up for the playoffs with wins over No. 2-ranked 4A power Pueblo West and 10th-ranked 5A opponent Fruita Monument. At regionals, they will host No. 22 Lakewood and No. 34 ThunderRidge.
Also in 5A, Legacy reached the 32-team regional round and will enter as the No. 25 seed. Boulder (No. 30) and Monarch (No. 31) cracked the postseason tournaments, as well. Since each top 12 seed will host a regional tournament, all three will travel.
In Class 4A, three BoCoPreps.com teams will host regional tournaments. Holy Family was awarded the seventh overall seed and will host the Region 7 tournament. Seeded 10th, Silver Creek will host Region 10 and 11th-seeded Niwot will host Region 11.
Erie enters the regional round at No. 22 and will travel to Region 3 at Cheyenne Mountain. Mead and Longmont enter regionals seeded No. 16 and No. 28, respectively, and will both travel to Region 9 at Thomas Jefferson.
"I think the number of local teams qualifying is a testament to how strong this area has become," Holy Family head coach Krista Solomon said. "Our league has a ton of teams and then you have the Northern teams. Volleyball is really getting strong in our area and I think one reason is that we're playing each other and any time you're consistently playing good teams, you're going to get better."
In Class 3A, No. 22 Prospect Ridge will travel to Colorado Springs Christian for the Region 3 tournament. No. 31 Peak to Peak will travel to Resurrection Christian for Region 6.
As the second qualifier out of the 2A District 7 tournament, Lyons will travel to Yuma for the 2A Region F tournament.
All regional champions will advance to their respective classification's state tournament. State tournaments will take place on Nov. 11-12 at the Denver Coliseum.
"Everything starts over on Friday," Solomon said. "Nothing matters now — not rankings or how many wins you have — but who comes out on top."
