GYMNASTS TO KNOW
Lindsay Chohon, Sr., Niwot: Last season's Class 4A runner-up in the all-round at state, she's gunning for the top spot as a senior in 2018.
Chelsea Farley, So., Legacy/Mountain Range: Debuting at state as a freshman last season, she'll look to improve on her 53rd-place finish in the uneven bars.
Taylor Green, Jr., Niwot: She took a big step forward and finished fifth in the all-around at the 4A state meet, and she'll be looking to keep moving up the rankings this fall.
Melanie Roberts, Jr., Broomfield: After qualifying for state in two events as a sophomore, this season will be a big one as she tries to take home a medal.
Grace Stephenson, So., Niwot: Finishing 10th in the all-around as a freshman last fall was impressive and she's back to earn more hardware, and to help the Cougars challenge for the 4A title again in 2018.
Regional meets to be held Oct. 26-27.
Class 4A state championships will be held Nov. 2-3.
Class 5A state championships will be held Nov. 1 & 3.
Coach: Whitney Parzybok (second year).
Last year: Finished fourth at Class 5A state meet.
Returning state qualifiers: Melanie Roberts (Jr.; 28th in floor; 4th in beam; 26th in vault).
Others to watch: Darcy Jew (So.), Natalie Orsborn (Jr.).
Outlook: The Eagles lost four quality gymnasts from last year's varsity team but still expect to have a strong team and their goal of being competitive at the state finals never changes. Melanie Roberts returns after placing fourth on the balance beam last season and the vault and floor will be critical areas of improvement for the Eagles since they lost three of their six 2017 competitors.
LEGACY/MOUNTAIN RANGE MUSTANGS
Coach: Diane Clark (sixth year).
Last year: Did not qualify for Class 5A state meet.
Returning state qualifiers: Chelsea Farley (So.; 53rd in bars), Bella Mondragon (Jr.; 55th in bars).
Others to watch: Jenna Bossi (Fr.), Jules Medina (Fr.), Jordan Montz (Sr.).
Outlook: Last fall was a bit of a down season for the Mustangs but the program has 16 freshmen coming out for the team in 2018. It's difficult to say which of the young girls will get the skills they need to make the varsity team, but the Mustangs have a pair of veterans in Mondragon and Farley returning after competing at state in the bars a year ago.
Coach: Marisa Purcell (third year).
Last year: Finished second at Class 4A state meet.
Returning state qualifiers: Lindsay Chohon (Sr.; 2nd in all-around; 2nd in floor; 8th in bars; 6th in beam; 2nd in vault), Taylor Green (Jr.; 5th in all-around; 9th in floor;13th in bars; 5th in beam; 10th in vault), Grace Stephenson (So.; 10th in all-around; 3rd in floor; 28th in bars; 12th in beam; 6th in vault).
Others to watch: Mia Curry (Fr.), Olivia Sroka (Fr.).
Outlook: This season will be a little different in that the Cougars have just 13 girls on the team, which has its pros and cons. Emphasizing the bars during the offseason, the Cougars still hope to show well at state and contend for a 4A title. Lindsay Chohon figures to be in the mix for the individual all-around crown after finishing runner-up as a junior in 2017.
