No. 10 Fairview scored on its first three offensive possessions and used a strong defensive effort to pick up a 31-21 win over the visiting ThunderRidge Grizzlies. The win pushed the Knights to 6-1 overall and put them back in the Mt. Cameron League race at 1-1.

"We have great respect for ThunderRidge, they have tremendous tradition and they play really hard and fast, so we're excited for the win," said Fairview head coach Tom McCartney.

Sophomore quarterback Aidan Atkinson threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns to lead Fairview's offense.

Senior running back Mariano Kemp got the Knights on the board on the first possession of the game, as he weaved his way through traffic from eight yards out to put Fairview ahead 7-0. Kemp would score on the next Fairview possession as well, as he punched it in from one yard out to push the Knights' lead to 14-0.

Kemp ran for 131 yards total.

"Offensively, I thought we did well. I think we hurt ourselves with some penalties that hurt some drives, but when we were penalty-free, we were able to move the ball and do some good things," McCartney said.

A 31-yard field goal from senior Tevye SchuettPelz-Rohl was the only score for either team in the second quarter and gave Fairview a 17-0 lead heading into the break.

ThunderRidge would cut the deficit to 10 with a touchdown pass early in the third quarter, but back-to-back touchdown passes from Atkinson to junior receiver Matt Greenwald put the game out of reach. Greenwald twice beat his defender on a seam route up the left side and Atkinson was able to find him both times.

The Grizzlies would make things interesting in the fourth quarter, as a 1-yard run from Cy Paul and a 2-yard touchdown pass to Chris Franquemont cut the deficit to 31-21 with 3:19 left, but Fairview recovered the ensuing onside kick and was able to run out the clock to secure the win.

"Our defensive coordinator likes to mix things up and put some pressure on them," said McCartney. "I thought we did a great job with that."

Next up, Fairview will travel to Mullen to take on the Mustangs next Friday.
