Due to not enough kids getting the required practices in before the start of the season, the Nederland football team has been forced to cancel its first game, which was to be played against Hayden at the NHS football field on Saturday.
Nederland athletic director Rick Elertson said on Monday the Panthers will continue to try and get enough numbers to support an 8-man team in time for the next scheduled game and that the season is not cancelled at this point in time.
The Colorado High School Activities Association mandates players have nine practices in prior to the first game.
Nederland made headlines this offseason when it hired Beth Buglione to take over as head coach. Buglione is believed to be the first female head coach in Colorado.
