Niwot football's final game of the season scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled after a tragedy occurred concerning visiting Grand Junction.

In an email sent to Niwot football parents from athletic director Chase McBride on Thursday, McBride explained that Saturday's season finale was being cancelled after "coaches, players and administrators at Grand Junction HS" determined playing the game wasn't in the players best interest at this time.

Niwot ends the season with a 3-6 mark. The Cougars, who had only won one contest in the previous two seasons, started the year 3-0 before dropping their final six games.
