Rampart kicker Trey Babb may not have had the right jersey on or even the correct socks, but when needed most, his right leg's aim was true.

The senior booted a 26-yard field goal with 5.4 seconds left to lift the Rams past perennial state football power Monarch, 21-18, on Thursday night.

Babb, a center midfielder for the 4A Rams boys' soccer team, was late for the football game, hurrying into District 20 Stadium during the fourth quarter as the Rams battled the Coyotes.

The Rams fell 4-2 to top-ranked Cheyenne Mountain in soccer earlier in the evening, so bouncing back with his first game-winner in football was a good consolation prize.

"Absolutely," Babb said. "I'm feeling pretty good right now."

Monarch tried to ice Babb with consecutive timeouts as he lined up, but to no avail.

"It was sort of funny, them thinking they could ice me," he said. "This is a big-time win for us. That's a good team we beat over there."
