The No. 7-seed Broomfield Eagles dominated every facet of the game in a 4-0 win over the No. 2-seed Far Northeast Warriors to advance to the semifinals of the 5A state playoffs. Junior Tanner Smith notched two goals for the Eagles.

"It feels good to win and move on. Once you make the last four, you've made the elite group. We've got a really tough match ahead of us with Fort Collins on Wednesday, but I'm really excited for the guys," said Broomfield head coach Jim Davidson.

The first half was a defensive struggle with the only goal coming on a penalty kick, but the Eagles pulled away with three goals in the second half to book their spot in the semifinals.

"I think that we grew into the game," Davidson said. "Once we got the game settled about 20 minutes in, I thought we were really good for the final 20 minutes of the first half and we were relentless in the second."

Broomfield opened the scoring in the eighth minute, as junior Nathan Dishongh was fouled in the box and senior Triston Austin buried the penalty kick low in the far side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Smith scored just on the other side of halftime, as senior Michael Mooney played him through and his shot beat the Far Northeast keeper at the near post. Smith scored again in the 63rd minute, as a pass down the center of the pitch snuck through to him and he knocked it just inside the far post.

The Eagles' final goal came in the 67th minute, as senior goalkeeper Jose Ogaz made a save at point-blank range to keep Far Northeast off the board, then his clearance was caught in the wind and floated past the Warriors defense, where senior Michael Georgiton ran onto it and knocked it home for Broomfield's final tally of the night.

"We were able to find space underneath, and finally broke them down in the midfield. We were able to keep the ball and run our movements from there. Our pattern movement was excellent," Davidson said.

In the semifinals, Broomfield will take on Fort Collins, whose only loss this season was a 5-1 defeat to the Eagles back on October 5. The game will take place Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Echo Park.
